Since 2007, ANCOR has recognized DSPs nationwide who show exceptional commitment to safe, compassionate care for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, while promoting independence and inclusion. Wanda demonstrates these values daily through her dedication to person-centered care and advocacy.
Wanda鈥檚 journey reflects resilience and purpose. After surviving a devastating house fire that left her injured and displaced, she stayed connected to the families she supports and returned to work as soon as possible. She then completed a rigorous apprenticeship and earned her DSP III designation, further demonstrating her commitment to professional growth and excellence.
Her impact is deeply felt in her clients’ lives. When one individual wanted to manage her own finances, Wanda identified the need for foundational math skills. She advocated for resources and consistently supported her in building confidence with number recognition and basic calculations, empowering her toward greater independence.
Wanda brings encouragement and joy to her work. Known for uplifting others, she once joined a hesitant karaoke participant on stage, singing with them to build confidence and create a moment of shared success.
