Rehab Without Walls Leader Co-Authors Published Study Showing Advances in Pediatric Brain Injury Therapy Through Home-Based Care

Christine Martin, (RWW) Regional Director of Operations for the Northeast Region, had her co-authored, peer-reviewed article, A Home and Community Based Neurorehabilitation Program for Pediatric Brain Injury: A Case Series, published in the April 2026 edition of .

The article examines RWW’s home and community-based care model for children with acquired brain injury (ABI), demonstrating the effectiveness of pediatric neurorehabilitation. Using data from an RWW pilot program in Maine, the study followed children who received intensive, transdisciplinary services at home, in school, and within their communities.

Children in the program demonstrated significant improvements in physical, abilities, adjustment, and overall functioning. All participating families expressed satisfaction with the services and indicated they would recommend the program. Although participation outcomes remained one of the toughest areas to shift—a common challenge in pediatric ABI —the findings support RWW’s approach that therapy delivered in natural environments supports carryover, relevance, and real functional gains.

The article also emphasizes RWW’s commitment to person-centered, transdisciplinary care that values both participation and performance, distinguishing the program from other neurorehabilitation models.
